The US Senate is about to vote on it’s version of HR 6304 - the FISA Amendments.
What does this mean to you?
This bill will allow the President, any president, not just the current one, to tap YOUR phone for ANY REASON he or she thinks fit. This is Soviet era style stuff here folks. There will no longer be ANY law stopping the President from tapping the phone or internet communications of ANYONE they want. So if they don’t like you, if you disagree with their policies, if you don’t support the taxes they want to pass on you, or mandatory government healthcare, or to take your guns, or your kids, or force you to be vaccinated with experimental drugs, or if they start another war you disagree with, or simply because you didn’t vote for them, they can tap your communications and store it for any purpose or use they want.
AND the telecom companies will be immune from lawsuit for doing the dirty work. Retroactively. That means they can’t be taken to court, even for what they’ve already done.
Folks, this isn’t about catching terrorists. It’s about convincing you to give up all right to privacy. It’s about FEAR and INTIMIDATION. Even your non phone conversations may possibly be ‘tapped’ due to their ability to remotely turn on devices like cell phone and OnStar microphones.
This is serious people.
Call your Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on the FISA bill.
Spying is an act of war. Spying on the American people is treason. This bill is a declaration of war by our government upon We the People. Anyone who carries out this spying is a traitor and is guilty of treason. Let’s not go down this path. If you want to see where it leads, read about Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Pinochet’s Chile, Mugabe’s Zimbabwe, heck even Saddam’s Iraq.
This is also an act of Treason by Congress if it passes this bill. Treason is defined by the Constitution as “giving aid or comfort to the enemy, or making war against them [the several States].”
If the terrorists hate us because we are free, I can’t think of a better way to give them aid and comfort than to take away that freedom from the American People. (I’ve already covered the making war
part)

June 27th, 2008 — Action Alert, Iran
By: D. H. Williams @ 2:16 PM - EST

Mike Pence (R-IN) and Gary Ackerman (D-NY) sponsor bill to begin a Naval Blockade against Iran in essence declaring War, by side stepping The United States Constitution.
Introduced just prior to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Annual Policy Meeting H.Con.Res 362, has garnered 169 co-sponsors and is expect to pass by a 2/3 majority in Congress.
When this bill is discussed by supporters in AIPAC or in The Congress they call it an urgent effort - economic, political, and diplomatic - to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
However when you read the bill it is clearly a proposed naval blockade of Iran:
(3) demands that the President initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran’s nuclear program; and…
This bill ask the President to use his Unitary Powers to bypass the Constitutional requirement for The Congress to declare war.
Why bother with that pesky Constitution when you can be ruled by a King.

“This FISA bill is an evisceration of the Fourth Amendment” - Jonathan Turley
Democrats campaigned on civil liberties while they already knew about torture camps and widespread warrantless spying on Americans.
House Democrats decide to appease President Bush’s illegal spying activities giving immunity to phone companies who have already committed federal crimes. Constitutional expert Jonathan Turley sees a “very frightening bill” in a proposed “compromise,” currently in the House, that would update the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to effectively grant immunity from civil law suits to telecommunications companies that agreed to spy on their customers as part of the National Security Agency’s warrantless wiretapping program, starting shortly before the World Trade Center attacks in 2001. The bill basically says if The White House asks a phone company to spy it is legal and that is enough to dismiss a case.
Turley says this bill is not only immunizing the telecommunications companies, but the administration and any members of Congress, on either side of the aisle, that may have been involved in crimes.
“The Democrats never really were engaged in [fighting] this,” said Turley. “In fact, they repeatedly tried to cave in to the White House, only to be stopped by civil libertarians and bloggers.”
“I think they’re simply waiting to see if the public’s interest will wane,” he went on, referring to repeated attempts to float this legislation past the public. “This bill has quite literally no public value for citizens or civil liberties. It is reverse engineering, though the type the Bush Administration’s famous for, and now the Democrats are doing — that is, to change the law to conform to past conduct.”
“It’s what any criminal would love to do,: Turley continued. “You rob a bank, go to the legislature, and change the law to say that robbing banks is lawful.”
Time to stop this bill again call your representaives in Congress today. Why not leave a comment and tell us how the call went….

Senator Harry Reid double talks his way through questions about FISA. My Opinion: He’s going to be for gutting The Fourth Amendment to protect himself and other criminals in Congress.

SENATE HOUSING BILL REQUIRES EBAY, AMAZON, GOOGLE, AND ALL CREDIT CARD COMPANIES TO REPORT TRANSACTIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT
Broad, invasive provision touches nearly every aspect of American commerce.
Washington, D.C. — Hidden deep in Senator Christopher Dodd 630-page Senate housing legislation is a sweeping provision that affects the privacy and operation of nearly all of America’s small businesses. The provision, which was added by the bill’s managers without debate this week, would require the nation’s payment systems to track, aggregate, and report information on nearly every electronic transaction to the federal government.
FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey commented: “This is a provision with astonishing reach, and it was slipped into the bill just this week. Not only does it affect nearly every credit card transactions in America, such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, but the bill specifically targets payment systems like eBay’s PayPal, Amazon, and Google Checkout that are used by many small online businesses. The privacy implications for America’s small businesses are breathtaking.”
“Privacy groups like the Center for Democracy and Technology and small business organizations like the National Federation of Independent Business sharply criticized this idea when it first appeared earlier this year. What is the federal government’s purpose with this kind of detailed data? How will this database be secured, and who will have access? Many small proprietors use their Social Security number as their tax ID. How will their privacy be protected? What compliance costs will this impose on businesses? Why is Sen. Chris Dodd putting this provision in a housing bailout bill? The bill also includes the creation of a new national fingerprint registry for mortgage brokers.
“At a time when concerns about both identity theft and government spying are paramount, Congress wants to create a new honey pot of private data that includes Social Security numbers. This bill reduces privacy across America’s payment processing systems and treats every American small business or eBay power seller like a criminal on parole by requiring an unprecedented level of reporting to the federal government. This outrageous idea is another reason to delay the housing bailout legislation so that Senators and the public at large have time to examine its full implications.”
From the Senate Bill Summary:
Payment Card and Third Party Network Information Reporting. The proposal requires information reporting on payment card and third party network transactions. Payment settlement entities, including merchant acquiring banks and third party settlement organizations, or third party payment facilitators acting on their behalf, will be required to report the annual gross amount of reportable transactions to the IRS and to the participating payee. Reportable transactions include any payment card transaction and any third party network transaction. Participating payees include persons who accept a payment card as payment and third party networks who accept payment from a third party settlement organization in settlement of transactions. A payment card means any card issued pursuant to an agreement or arrangement which provides for standards and mechanisms for settling the transactions. Use of an account number or other indicia associated with a payment card will be treated in the sam
e manner as a payment card. A de minimis exception for transactions of $10,000 or less and 200 transactions or less applies to payments by third party settlement organizations. The proposal applies to returns for calendar years beginning after December 31, 2010. Back-up withholding provisions apply to amounts paid after December 31, 2010. This proposal is estimated to raise $9.802 billion over ten years.
