Columnist Tony Blankley appears on Fox News to promote the idea of a “universal draft” in America.
“If we don’t do a lot of things smart and tough, we could get overwhelmed,” Blankley told the hosts of Fox & Friends on Monday. “We’ve failed to exploit our energy. We’re not paying enough attention to what our kids are learning — Bill Ayers is actually a senior person in guiding the curriculum design of America.”
One of Blankley’s more eye-catching proposals in American Grit is that all eighteen year olds should be subject to two years of required military service.
“I don’t like it, I love the volunteer army … but we don’t have enough troops,” Blankley explained. “When George Bush wanted to have the surge, he was told by the senior generals we didn’t have the extra 20,000 troops to finish the war. … Now Obama wants to go to Afghanistan … but he says we don’t have the troops unless we pull them out of Iraq. What happens if Pakistan goes jihad-y? We don’t have the troops to go in there and stop them from taking over the nuclear weapons.”
“If we had had enough troops in Iraq, we wouldn’t have lost 4,000 great young men and women,” Blankley concluded. “We needed to flood the field … with 300,000 troops occupying every village and every building and they would never have been able to rise up.”
Much of what Blankley says is based on common sense but had we just listened to the founding fathers we would have never extended the voluntary Armed Services in the first place and a discussion about a draft would not be necessary.

There will be no draft, and if one is enacted, I can guarantee neither I nor any of my family will go, and I will give aid to anyone who also wants to defy the government. It’s bad enough that patriotic Americans join the military to defend us and our freedom from tyranny and aggression only to find that they’re sacrificial lambs for Israel’s interests in direct opposition to our own; I certainly won’t allow our people to be conscripted against their will to die in Israeli soldiers’ stead. Israel can fight their own wars and their own soldiers can die for their criminal aggression.
More fear mongerers. The threat of terror is as real as faux wood. It’s too bad we send our people over to fight for the “biggest nothing” on earth, when they learn about it later in life they will end up with chronic depression.
I’m guessing that Blankley has never read the Constitution, and specifically, the 13th Amendment which relates to involuntary servitude. The draft strikes at the very core of our freedom. Are we truly free human beings, or owned and controlled by the government, no different than livestock.
The government in America was founded on the basis that it is the citizen’s servant, NOT master. Sadly, not only have our politicians and bureaucrats, forgotten this, or are so ignorant that they never knew it in the first place, but it appears to me that most of our population doesn’t know it as well. If our population was not so ignorant, and dumbed down, they’d be intelligent enough to demand that anyone that would even propose such an idea of a draft which is, not only abhorrent, but diametrically opposed to freedom, they’d demand these traitors be hung for treason or at least imprisoned and thrown out of office. They are enemies to our country’s freedom, and enemies to the Constitution.
Alice is right, the Constitution limits government, not the people. You should also read all the Amendments, the Constitution, and Declaration of Independence. It wouldn’t hurt to read the Holy Bible too.
What absolute garbage! The US needs to get out of other countries while it still can. It most certainly does not need to add more and more cannon fodder to its military. There wouldn’t be jihadists if the US were not ruining Arab countries with assassinations, wars, rumours of war, support for an egregious small country that refuses to negoitiate with its Middle Eastern neighbours, CIA secret missions (terrorism) in various Middle Eastern countries, regime change and various and sundry other egregious actions against them. This article is nothing but militaristic propaganda .
Mr. Blankley speaks with a distinctive British accent, as befits a son of empire. But he was in high school with my husband in Los Angeles about forty years ago. Can it be that he kept his accent polished and ready for a getaway? Or can he just be trading on the unaccountable authority with which the Taxation without Representation international crowd seems to woo the gullible?
“We” need a draft do “we”? To “survive”? My, my, my, how the parasites do tick. Where, pray tell, was Tony during the late Vietnam debacle? Just curious, not that I think he or anyone else should have been drafted to fight this one.
All I can say is “Beware of ch-ch-charm.”
Alice Smith writes the best reply to this issue and it needs to be read over and over by the media networks and every citizen in the country until the real truth sinks in ! WE get bombarded 24/7 with the Federalist propaganda issuing out THEIR ORDERS to us, when it should be the other way around ! IF the public knew the real truth about this so-called ‘government’, they’d tear into the White House instantly and clear it out and not one would EVER join THEIR US MILITARY and fight for THEIR EVIL OWG to enslave us all under ! That is all it is for ! Join the State Militia instead ! That is the ONLY military that serves THIS COUNTRY And REAL FREEDOM !
It’s slavery! Regardless of what you think of the wars (I personally think we should never have gone in the first place) the draft is involuntary and it’s servitude. Therefore it is involuntary servitude and illegal as well as totally wrong.
I hope nobody goes.
No coincidence then that a bloated freak who looks like an alien is unlikely to be accepted into the forces … ?
There is another way and it will save a huge amount of money. That is cease US foreign military adventures. Then you wouldn’t need more military, more defense costs, more equipment etc., etc. Is that really too difficult to stop doing? you could try harder, you know.
