Americans stopped at random checkpoints

By: D. H. Williams @ 2:57 PM - EST

Citing the War on Drugs and Terror U.S. Border Patrol agents funded by Homeland Security are operating interior border control checkpoints. Randomly detaining Americans and searching vehicles in the name of state security.

These random vehicle checkpoints are not on the borders of the United States but rather within the U.S. where American citizens are required to submit to detention and searches without cause or warrant. Most who are stopped will simply submit to authority without realizing that the Fourth Amendment to The Constitution has been violated.

In similar check points ran in Indianapolis, Indiana the Supreme Court ruled in City of Indianapolis V. Edmond, “Because the checkpoint program’s primary purpose is indistinguishable from the general interest in crime control, the checkpoints violate the Fourth Amendment.” The Justices went on to say, “The Fourth Amendment requires that searches and seizures be reasonable. A search or seizure is ordinarily unreasonable in the absence of individualized suspicion of wrongdoing.”

Many in Washington D. C. including current presidential candidate John McCain are pushing to make these illegal checkpoints a permanent part of the American landscape.
