Twenty five Senate Republicans break ranks with Bush to pass a new GI Bill negotiated by Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) for all active duty servicemembers, reservists and veterans who have served since 9-11.
This new bill is being supported by most veteran groups because it would pay full tuition and fees at the most expensive state schools, provide a monthly stipend for housing, and give Reserve and Guard members who have served lengthy deployments since 9 - 11 access to the same GI benefits.
Many Neo - Cons serving in the Senate such as Lindsey Graham (S.C.), John McCain (Ariz.) and Richard Burr (N. C.) are concerned that this new bill is too generous and will entice servicemembers to leave the Armed Forces after completing their enlistment obligations. Perhaps war loving Neo - Cons should have considered obeying The Constitution and properly declaring war? But instead they choose to engage in nation building at the expense of our young men and women. And then they have the audacity to deprive our troops from enjoying a life of peace and prosperity.
Sen. Chuck Hagel who is a co-sponsor of the new GI Bill said.
“I don’t see Lindsey Graham or John McCain or Richard Burr or the president of the United States going to the Congress and asking for offsets for the $3 billion a week we spend in Iraq,” Hagel said. “If it’s critical that we produce money to fund the war, with no regard for how we’re going to pay for it,” it’s should be critical to provide a decent GI Bill “to the poor guy at the bottom who always has to take the hill.”
Do you think McCain, Graham and Burr support the troops?
